Layal Husain

I'm an Assistant Professor of Psychology specializing in educational and developmental psychology. My research focuses on understanding developmental and linguistic processes across diverse populations, including children, immigrant communities, and neurodiverse individuals. I have a particular interest in community and interdisciplinary research that drives meaningful and real-world impact. My work explores how language acquisition, cognitive development, and educational experiences intersect to shape learning outcomes and social integration. I am particularly interested in the role of cultural and linguistic diversity in developmental trajectories, as well as the challenges and opportunities faced by marginalized groups. More recently, I've also been exploring the impact of mindfulness based interventions amongst vulnerable youth. Through my research, I aim to contribute to evidence-based practices that foster inclusive education and support the developmental needs of learners from varied backgrounds. My goal is to bridge psychological theory with practical applications that enhance learning environments and promote equity in education. Alongside my research, I additionally have previous experience organizing and leading programs, teaching, working in schools, and supporting staff.
