Dr. Huda Shaaban is a Licensed Educational Psychologist and a highly trained learning disabilities expert with more than 25 years of professional experience in the field of educational psychology. She has been working in the educational field in Kuwait since 1996, serving in multiple professional capacities including high school instructor, educational specialist, consultant, researcher, lecturer, and school director.
Dr. Shaaban has PhD in Educational Psychology with a specialization in Learning Disabilities, in addition to extensive expertise in: Educational leadership, Learning Disabilities, Dyslexia, ADHD, Teaching Strategies, Classroom Practices, Differentiation Instructions, Curriculum Accommodations and Modifications, Behavior and School Management, Social Emotional Learning, Emotions and Motivations, Multiple Intelligence, Learning Styles, Brain Based Learning and Executive Functions.
As a renowned regional expert, Dr. Shaaban has presented at many professional events in the MENA region including Kuwait, Amman, Bahrain, Dubai, Lebanon, and Qatar, and internationally in the US, London, Berlin and Sydney. Her scope of expertise spread out to chairing and coordinating many national and international professional development conferences, forums, training sessions, and public awareness campaigns.
As a passionate and collaborative educational leader, Dr. Shaaban has been working with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for the past three years as a learning disabilities (LD) & attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) expert consultant to support the Kuwait Association for Learning Differences (KALD).
She is also a founding member and President of the Learning Difficulties Professional Association (LDPA); an organization established in 2002 to work with and support teachers and specialists across private schools. She also serves as the Assistant Director for the Disability Services at the American University of Kuwait (AUK).
She is a Professional Certified ADHD Coach (PCC) from the International Coach Federation (ICF) and the Author of the book: “Harnessing the Power of ADHD- My Recipe for Success”.
Dr. Shaaban completed her graduate and post-graduate education at the Lebanese University in Beirut, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Clinical Psychology, a Master degree and Ph. D in Psychology with a specialization in Learning Disabilities.
Dr. Shaaban is the founder of the “D.E.C.I.S.I.O.N” Integrative Therapeutic Approach for treating individuals with ADHD. As well, the “D.E.C.I.S.I.O.N- D.E.A.R 2 M.E” Transformative Coaching Model- which is a research-based model that has won the best paper award in ARICELL/ ARICPEST Conference, King’s College- London 2019. – and has resulted in the development of a new theory in growth- the “Self-Sustained Growth Theory” which was presented at the ARICON Conference in Harvard University, Boston on May 2022.
I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist specializing in child and adolescent mental health and school neuropsychological assessment. I earned my BA in Psychology and MA in Clinical Psychology from the American University of Beirut and completed a two-year intensive clinical training with an emphasis in child and adolescent psychology at the American University of Beirut Medical Center’s Psychiatry Department. I later fulfilled a post-graduate training in school neuropsychology with the School Neuropsychology Institute in Texas and attained board-certification by the American Board of School Neuropsychology. In my practice, I provide individual psychotherapy for ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse children, adolescents, and youth in addition to parent and family counseling. As a therapist, I foster an integrative approach, adopting principles from psychodynamic psychotherapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy. In parallel, I offer cross-battery school neuropsychological assessments through standardized testing for pre-school and school-aged children and adolescents and work closely with schools and families to address the needs of students with academic and personal challenges.
